Valentines 2013

Last year my daughter exchanged Valentine's Day Cards with her little preschool group friends. There were 4 little girls in the group, and the Valentines were girly and fun.

This year in Kindergarten, she gets to have a fun Valentine's Day party and exchange Valentines with her classmates. If you go to the store, there are the prepackaged cards or candy valentines. If you know me, completely store bought, just ain't my thing. Then, you go to Pinterest and there are TONS of cute ideas, but still a majority involve candy. Once again, too much candy just ain't my thing. (Side note: We have a "treat basket" at our house. We go through candy slowly around here, and still have Halloween and Christmas candy in our treat basket. So I had no desire to add to the candy intake. Cheesecake, ice cream and brownies are more than welcome though, and don't last long.) I figured a majority of the Valentines the kids will get will have candy, so they wouldn't be sad if ours didn't. Instead we came up with this:

And, of course, I had to design a little printable to go with it. Click on the image below to download it for yourself. Then, simply print at home, cut out, punch a hole at the top and bottom, have your child sign it, and slip a silly straw through the holes.
(File has been updated since the original post. Enjoy!)

We couldn't forget about her teacher! Her teacher's favorite snack is goldfish. So I had to copy the popular "FISH" themed Valentines out there, and designed this one:

Click on the image below to download your free printable. I made it print 4 to a page in case your child has more than one teacher to share their love with.

What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

Love the Sip Sip hooray idea! Looks like I'm all set for valentines day. Thank you!

I love these, and I already bought the straws for my daughter's Valentines this year! I have one little favor to ask...will you please add an apostrophe to "Valentine's"? As it is used on the printable, it is possessive. It shows that the day belongs to St. Valentine; it is his day. I would appreciate it so much. I think this is the best idea I've seen this year. Thank you!

Heidi,
Thanks so much for catching that! I have updated the file and it is now correct! Have fun putting these together :)

These are fantastic! I would love to do a similar thing for birthdays within the class. Is it possible to create a birthday one, replacing 'valentine's day' with 'your birthday'? Thankyou!

Is there any way to get the printable emailed to me? I tried printing from the website you have linked but it didn't work for me. I love this and can't wait to give to my first graders. Thank you so much.

I can't print this either and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I click on the image as directed but the page I'm directed to doesn't offer a print option. When I right-click on the page to print, it will print the webpage, not the actual printable. Help!

Thank you so much for creating and sharing for FREE!!! I have the same philosophy in my house. We have a treat bowl full of candy that we just don't go through fast enough and I shake my head at the idea of more candy coming in from V-day and Easter. This is perfect because kids LOVE to drink with a straw and it's useful :) Thank you again!!!

The pdf still has no apostrophe in the word 'Valentines'.

did you use card stock or just printer paper? These are so cute and I can't wait to use them! Thank you so much for having them free for everyone to enjoy! So many people make these printable and charge too much!

Kinzie Sue said...

lrc1207- thank you for pointing that out. It should be all fixed now!

Emily, yes, I used cardstock. I usually do for cards and tags like these :) You're very welcome- enjoy!

Is there any way that you could make an addtional sheet with the fish that just says It's O-Fish-Al, You're Awesome. I'd love to give out small bags of fish to classmates!

Printed, had son sign his name, attached to straws, now ready to hand them out to his kindergarten friends. Thanks so much for a "non-candy" option!
