Graphic Design Love

To say that I like to create printables, invitations, art, etc. would be an understatement. My love of graphic design has me constantly thinking in terms of layers and fonts and how I could turn an idea into something I can print and love. These past few months I have been busy designing for myself and for friends and family. There have been lots of baby showers, activities, and projects that have been keeping me busy- busy doing something I love. Here is a little sampling of a few of the things I've created.

This last one I created to give to women in an eating disorder center, but I thought that it is also true of all of us, in our different struggles and situations in life. It is important to remember our own individual worth and that we are important!

So I am offering the print above as a free download. It is sized to 5x7 and you can download it as a JPEG file or a PDF. Please remember that this printable is for personal use only, and is not to be resold in any format. If you are interested in using this for wide spread or commercial use, please contact me, as I would love to assist you!

Simple Pumpkin Canvas

Today the weather has been amazing. It's cool, there's a light breeze, and this just feel more like fall. I told myself I wasn't going to decorate for fall until October arrived, but with the weather today, I couldn't hold out any longer. I went up in the attic and pulled down what little we have for Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. It was minimal at most. So I rummaged through my wood scrap pile and pulled out some leftover orange burlap to whip up this quick little project. (Sorry no pictures of the process.)

      What you'll need:
  • Piece of wood, any size you want.
  • Burlap to wrap around wood.
  • Staple gun & staples.
  • Contact paper.
  • Pumpkin outline printable (see below).
  • Scissors or exacto knife.
  • White craft paint.
  • Paint brush- I actually used a circular sponge stamper brush...

      How to:
  1. Iron any big creases out of burlap.
  2. Lay burlap on floor, and place wood on top of it.
  3. Wrap burlap to the back of your wood and staple in place. I staple parallel sides one after the other, and then switch to the other parallel sides, pulling taut as you go, but not too hard since burlap is a loose weave.
  4. Print out pumpkin to fit on your canvas with border room.
  5. Cut a piece of contact paper to fit the size of your board, trace pumpkin onto contact paper, cut out pumpkin, and set aside. Using the left behind contact paper, peel off backing and adhere to your burlap wrapped board. Make sure to press down well especially around the inner edges.
  6. Paint the negative space with white paint. With my circular sponge brush I dabbed paint, do not brush from side to side or the paint may seep under the edges of your contact paper.
  7. Once painted you can carefully remove contact paper.
  8. Set project aside to dry.

Enjoy!

Silhouette Project: Canvas

On of the many ways that I've put my kids' silhouettes to use was in a quick and easy canvas project.

Here's how to do it:

1.  Print or trace the silhouettes onto contact paper (cut to a 8.5" x 11" sheet and run through the printer just you would with paper.)
2.  Cut out the silhouette using an exacto knife.

3.  Adhere paper to canvas (I had to spray some extra spray adhesive to the edges to make sure it stuck good since contact paper is meant to not be super sticky.)
4.  Spray paint canvas making sure to get a good coat around the edges of the silhouette. I faded it out to the edges though it's hard to tell in the pictures since I used a metallic paint.

5.  Let dry. The edges of my stencil curled up as it dried making it easy to remove.
6.  Hang your canvas for all to enjoy. I plan on adding the kids names to their canvas, but haven't decided yet how I want that detail to look. So for now they simply hang above our dresser, and I love seeing their cute cheeks, noses, and chins each time I change E's diaper.

I think this would be really cute in a shared kids room or in a playroom with each child's canvas sprayed with a different fun color.

Easter

I pulled down the Easter stuff from the attic last week. All two of them: one lone plastic Easter pail and a bag of mismatched Easter eggs. Pretty sad. The kids had fun matching the egg halves up with their proper partners, but that got the home no more festive than before. After pulling a few things from around the house and making a few printable paper crafts, we now have a mantle that is kid-approved to be ready for Easter.

I got the vintage bunny print via Funkytime.
The Easter banner was inspired by this Spring Banner Printable, but I designed my own circle letters because I wanted mine to say Easter, and I just used scrapbook paper for my accordion circles. I Heart Nap Time has both a bright and pastel version to print for free.

Jingle Bells - free printable

Normally I'm the one who doesn't allow Christmas to come before Thanksgiving is over. No music, no decorations, nothing. I want to enjoy Thanksgiving and give it is due attention. However, this year, with the kids getting older and catching the Christmas bug, the holiday is making its presence known. We listen to Christmas music every now and then, we've seen a few Christmas movies, and Christmas decorations are being made so that the second Thanksgiving is over we can turn our home into a Christmas wonderland.

Being in the Christmas mood, I've been working on a few printable projects. Here is the first, an 8x10 Jingle Bells print inspired by my daughter's favorite Christmas song, as of late:

Bedtime Routine Canvas

There was a little spot in the kids bathroom that kept asking for something to adorn it. So a few months back I made this bedtime routine canvas.

First, I painted the canvas black. When it was dry, I sponged the edges with gray to distress it a bit.

I cut out my letters using a Cricut, then glued them on the dried canvas.

Once done, I hung it on the wall and it completed the space nicely. And now my daughter has a little checklist to go through - she's got great teeth-brushing technique!

LOVE Poster

Lately, I've been adding a little yellow into my daughter's room (and all over the house for that matter.) I think I've been yearning for Spring and sunshine. I have a few other yellow projects in her room that I'll show once I take the time to photograph them. So for Valentines Day, I made my daughter this piece of art to hang in her room.

Photobucket

This frame is pretty big- the opening measures 20" x 28" I designed one digitally, but didn't want to have it printed on photo paper, and I didn't want to wait (or pay) to have it printed somewhere else. So I put my mind to work. I bought a sheet of white poster board. Cut out the L,V, and E out of contact paper, and stuck them on the poster board. Then I whipped out some yellow spray paint I already had and sprayed the paper until it was as yellow as I wanted it. I let it dry then peeled off the letters. Then, I cut out a heart from pink cardstock, stuck it on, then put the art in the frame. It looks so cheery to match the beautiful sunshine we had today!
